The B&H Binocular Buying Guide

The Meade Instruments 10×42 MasterClass Pro ED Binoculars combine optical performance with rugged construction details to create a versatile binoculars that are as at home in the stadium as they is in the woods or on a boat. They feature extralow-dispersion (ED) glass, a field-flattener lens system, anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics, and phase-corrected BAK4 roof prisms to produce bright and clear high-contrast images with neutral color fidelity and virtually zero distortion across the entire field of view. Utilizing a powerful 10x magnification and moderately sized 42mm objectives keeps the bulk down so they are comfortable to carry in a pack or around your neck while offering an ultra-wide field of view, long eye relief, competent low-light performance, and the ability to make detailed observations at both close and long distances.

Complementing their optical performance is a lightweight housing that is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when you move through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. The body features an ergonomic design with rubber armor and strategically placed dimpling that offers a secure hold and a pleasant handling experience, with the large center focusing knob providing smooth adjustments. To help you with focusing and correcting for dioptric differences, the combination focus knob and diopter ring is knurled and can be easily adjusted even when wearing gloves. Ideal for fast glassing on the go, the MasterClass Pro ED comes with tethered caps that won’t get lost when you’re out and about and a shoulder harness integrated into their case that prevents them from swaying and swinging if you need to climb over rough and rocky terrain.

Optical Performance

High 10x magnification allows for detailed observation of distant subjects

  • 42mm objective lenses deliver the light-gathering capability required for extended use during the pre-dawn and late dusk hours
  • Compact roof prism light path keeps the optical tubes thin for easier handling and packing
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast and resolution
  • Highly reflective dielectric prism coatings maximize light transmission through the prism system
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass lenses offer true color representation, with improved clarity, contrast, and sharpness
  • Field-flattener lenses eliminate edge distortion for clear images across the entire field of view and correct off-axis comas and astigmatism
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics enhance light transmission for brighter and sharper views with enhanced contrast
  • Short 5-foot close focus distance allows close-up observation of small subjects like hummingbirds, bees, insects, and flowers
  • Ultra-wide 65° apparent angle of view limits the appearance of the distracting hand shake often experienced when holding high-power optics and presents an immersive observational experience
  • 343-foot field of view at 1000 yards

    Use and Handling

Closed-bridge configuration provides a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism

  • Large knurled focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or when wearing gloves
  • Dioptric adjustment dial, integrated into the focus wheel, enables precise focusing even for users who normally wear corrective lenses
  • Twist-up rubber eye cups for comfortable viewing with or without eyewear
  • Integrated 1/4″-20 socket on front of bridge hinge enables the use of an optional tripod adapter for hands-free viewing
  • Ultra-long 20mm eye relief improves viewing comfort and reduces eyestrain
  • 4.2mm exit pupil ensures the entire scene remains in view even in low light

    Construction Details

Slip-resistant armor with dimpled palm pads improve grip security

  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging
  • Tethered one-piece ocular rainguard and objective lens covers protect the lens surfaces without the fear of losing them when using the binoculars
  • Included case/harness shifts the weight from the neck to shoulders for more comfortable carrying while limiting swing and sway when moving over uneven ground
  • Weight: 32.3 ounces
