A Guide to On-Camera Flash

Offering a powerful 76Ws output, the TTL Li-Ion Camera Flash Speedlite for Canon and Nikon from GVM is an advanced light source with features that reflect the current state of the industry. Compatible with Nikon and Canon TTL, this flexible on-camera light is distinguished by its round head, which provides wide coverage and soft, even light with gradual fall off that’s very subject friendly. The rotating, tilting head brings those qualities to longer lenses as well.

The Y1 is powered by a removable 2600mAh lithium-ion battery that will give you up to 500 full-power flashes on a charge, so you don’t miss any of the action and recycles in just 2.1 seconds to full power, fast enough to keep up with the action. It also supports High Speed Sync up to 1/8000 second, for managing bright backgrounds and shooting with wide apertures, as well as front and rear curtain sync.

  • The Y1 has an optical slave but it’s also got a built-in 2.4 GHz transmitter/receiver that gives or receives TTL 2.4 GHz signals from GVM’s G-system transmitter. The Y1 has 16 channels and three groups to avoid interference with other shooters or to fire each flash separately for complex setups. If you have more than one Y1, you can also configure them in a master/slave mode, where the other flash or flashes mimic the settings of the on-camera “master” flash You can also set your flash units to different powers in Manual Mode for creative effects.
